Golden Jubilee Needle

The proposal for a 'formal yet contempory design' was selected by the States Golden Jubilee Committee in consultation with the Jersey Public Sculpture Trust and had the support of the Waterfront Enterprise Board.

Artist Richard Perry said 'The scale of the piece is carefully considered to create a memorable landmark that will work with the surrounding buildings viewed from  both the marina and jardin de la Mer. The marina's rippling plane of green water is echoed by the sculpture's layers of contrasting stone.'

Each piece of slate was selected for quality and colour. The discs were laminated into manageable units, each being approx 500mm high and made of 17 courses of slate. The joints between each slate disc is approx 0.5mm.
The tip of the sculpture has a bronze capping cone, 1m high by 100mm in diameter, bronze was used to achieve a fine point.
